Fear Screen Launches Barrier‑Free Entry Support for Independent Horror Filmmakers

Fear Screen Horror Film Festival has unveiled a new Barrier‑Free Entry Support programme, reaffirming its commitment to making horror cinema accessible to every creator, regardless of financial circumstances. The initiative provides heavy discounts or complete fee waivers to filmmakers facing economic hardship, ensuring that talent and storytelling take centre stage—not income.

Under the new scheme, independent filmmakers can apply for reduced or waived submission fees if they are unemployed, on a low income, receiving Universal Credit, or experiencing exceptional financial circumstances. The programme also welcomes applications from individuals from underrepresented or marginalised backgrounds within the film industry.

All applications are handled confidentially and reviewed on a case‑by‑case basis, with decisions typically made within 7–10 working days. Successful applicants receive a unique discount code to use on FilmFreeway, allowing them to submit their work at minimal or no cost.

"Independent horror thrives on diversity and daring imagination, this support initiative ensures that no filmmaker is excluded because of financial barriers. Our aim is to bring every unique voice into the spotlight and expand the range of perspectives represented in the genre."

Filmmakers can apply now by visiting fearsceen.com/financial/support, where details of eligibility and the application process are available.
